Loaves and Fishes

who we are

Loaves and Fishes is a non-profit association organized to help feed the hungry of the Clarksville area. The outreach began in 1983 when several ladies from Trinity Episcopal Church served soup on Wednesdays. Realizing the need for a daily lunch, these ladies, along with the cooperation of First Presbyterian, Immaculate Conception and Madison Street United Methodist Churches, organized “Loaves and Fishes.”

what we do

From this beginning, the soup kitchen has grown into an ecumenical, community-wide project. The kitchen has been housed at the First Presbyterian Church Activities and Outreach Center since January 1999. Loaves and Fishes also operates a Food Distribution Center.

Loaves and Fishes currently serves between 150-200 meals to the hungry in the Clarksville community six days a week, and distributes food to area agencies through volunteer efforts. Loaves and Fishes received 13,869 lbs of food in 2006 and served 49,158 meals. Loaves and Fishes also has a Food Distribution Center that helped 5,168 people in 2006 up from 3,097 in 2005.

If you are interested in volunteering to pick-up food, prepare food, or put together fundraisers or food drives, please contact Loaves and Fishes at lnftn@bellsouth.net. For more information about Loaves and Fishes, please visit www.lnftn.org.

Loaves and Fishes’ “Soup Kitchen” serves meals between 10:30AM and 12:00PM, Monday through Saturday.

Biggest Fundraiser of the Year
The Board of Directors of Loaves and Fishes have elected to, again, participate in the Feinstein Foundation National Challenge to fight hunger in America. Loaves and Fishes is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of providing a warm noontime meal to the hungry citizens of our community. We have two paid employees, the Executive Director/Treasurer and Dishwasher. We have a modest budget and need your help to meet our need.

Last year, Loaves and Fishes provided 55,052 meals to individuals at the kitchen. There were 9,686 people that food was requested for, through the food distribution program, from area agencies over the past year.

Your donations, with the Feinstein Foundation’s, have benefited the Loaves and Fishes kitchen greatly. Therefore, they are asking for your support for this year. By participating in this challenge, Loaves and Fishes is eligible to receive a percentage of the amount they collect from the Feinstein Foundation. Each year, they have seen the percentage grow.

In addition, the staff at Loaves and Fishes has seen the need for their services grow. Your donation will enable Loaves and Fishes to continue providing service to our community's hungry citizens.

Receiving your donation before April 15th, will allow Loaves and Fishes to include it in the amount reported to the Feinstein Foundation, as they receive additional funding from this organization.

Your consideration of this request is appreciated.
