FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - Ft. Campbell held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 18 for the opening of its brand-new 2 million dollar Fire Training Facility. Both civilian firefighters and military personnel will utilize the facility for rescue simulation training and structural and aviation firefighting.
Firefighters provided a demonstration in which they set a mock helicopter on fire to show how they extinguish the flames and simulated the rescue of an individual from the new structural fire training tower.
Prior to the development of this facility, trainees were sent out of state to learn techniques and practice for live fires. Now, military personal, the National Guard, other DOD agencies, and local fire departments have access to a professional area that is close to home.
“I’m so glad we were able to build this facility and to bring other organizations, state and federal organizations in so we can do joint training. I think it’s a great opportunity to allow us to build that partnership,” said Maj. Eneida Rivera-Rosado, Director of Emergency Services.
Military members embed with civilians at Ft. Campbell to receive specialized safety training, which will also help the 101st Sustainment Brigade be better equipped to handle emergency fire situations during deployments.
Assistant Chief of Training Benjamin Peetz is optimistic about the prospects. “It will allow us to train future firefighters, as well as our current firefighters,” he said.
