Store proper food and bottled water.
Check for any damage to the outside of your house. Mostly fallen tree limbs or fallen gutters.

Try to clear a path in your driveway or walk way.

Call and make sure nearby friends and family are OK.

Continue to monitor the weather forecast, this may only be a break in the storm.

Report and major damage to the police or proper authorites.

If you do have to drive during a winter storm you should make sure you have the following five items in your car. These can help you survive the elements if you are stranded during a harsh storm.

Blankets
Having extra blankets in the car can help you and your family stay warm if your car gets stuck on the side of the road.
Window Scraper
Driving blind isn't safe no matter what time of the year it is. Make sure you deice your windows throughly before any trip.
Cell Phone
No one is going to know that you got stuck if you can't call. Make sure you have a working and charged cell phone during any car ride this winter. A car charger is also handy to have in your glove box.
Extra Winter Clothing
Extra clothing such as scarfs, mittens and hats can help you stay warm inside your car. Having this will also help if you have to exit your car in the cold.
Emergency Kit
An emergency first aid kit and car kit may be able to save your life or get you back on the road. Road flares, jumper cables and any other medical equipment could get you out of the cold faster.
