Lomax was the Deputy Commander for nursing for the 86th Combat Support Hospital, and toward the end of his career, was the Rear Detachment Commander.
He retired on December 31, 2010 and became an assistant professor at Austin Peay State University’s School of Nursing, teaching senior level nursing students critical care and problem solving.
Lomax talked about the 86th support hospital to the Rotarians, many of whom are retired military and some were in the medical field. The majority of them only know of the 86th combat support hospital from the TV series MASH, and he wants to let people know what the hospital did and especially what they did in Iraq between 2007 and 2009.
He said he could have gone on for several hours but cut his speech down to 20 minutes.
