CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The wheel tax ($30.50), also known as a county fee or education tax, will be included in the total amount due on the state of Tennessee’s registration notice beginning in February of 2012.
 
Along with the total amount change, the state of Tennessee has also discontinued mailing the second page of the renewal notice.   The second page originally contained the wheel tax on non-resident military exemption information for counties in Tennessee.
 
Non-resident military eligible for the wheel tax exemption must submit a copy of their current Leave and Earnings Statement (L.E.S.) depicting the qualification to be exempt from the $30.50 tax, which must be presented at the time of service.
 
Payments and registration renewals can be made at the Montgomery County Clerk’s office, located at 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 502, or online at www.mcgtn.org.  For more information call 931-648-5711.
