Walking past the three columned entry, you begin to get a feel for the enormous size of the new building. The main doors are currently protected by a make-shift construction entrance because the site is still a work in progress. According to airport manager John Patterson there is still just over a month is left before the new facility will be opened.
Even without the finishing details the new terminal’s lobby is remarkable sight. Three story high ceiling and a balcony that encircles the second floor anchored by a set stairs directly across from the facility’s entrance. Patterson explained the new terminal will have a full size plane suspended from the center of the lobby’s ceiling.
The manager excitedly showed off several of the building’s meeting rooms and explained that each would be separated from the main lobby by a ceiling to floor glass separation. Some of the unfinished office space will provide the terminal with areas that can be leased to supporting businesses. Patterson said it would be another source of revenue for the Regional Airport.
The new terminal will provide visiting industrialists and possible business investors to Clarksville with all the comforts they come to expect when traveling the country. Patterson showed off areas where showers will be provided for lengthy stop overs for pilots and plane crew as well as a room slated to have a “break room” feel complete with vending. On the second floor there is even a small rest room that will provide a tranquil place for a pilot to grab a few winks while the corporate developer travels to view local sites.
For the terminal entrance from the airfield, Patterson explained plenty of room is provided for future expansion. Eventually the airport will offer a fully secure area of entry for arrivals explained the manager. The crown jewel of the new terminal will be the second floor large meeting room capable of handling business meetings as well as meeting from Fort Campbell personnel that use the airport. The main feature of the room is the wall of windows that look out, over the air field.
“A lot of revenue for the airport is going to be generated from this one room alone,” said Patterson.
Currently the Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Airport, also often called Outlaw Field, is managed by the Airport Authority that functions with guidance from both the city and county government. The new terminal, scheduled to be completed in late April, early March, is part of a continued development effort by Clarksville and Montgomery County to entice business and industrial investment to the area.
The terminal is the first thing in Clarksville businesses and companies will see and can set the tone for the representative’s whole visit to the area. Once the new terminal is open not only will it provide more revenue sources to the regional airport but it will also set the stage to impress possible investors in Clarksville-Montgomery County area showing that Clarksville can handle any corporate traffic the company may have.
Like it or not, Clarksville is one of the fastest growing cities in Tennessee and fortunately for the community that trend is not subsiding. Soon the community will also have a premier airport with a brand new terminal guaranteed to wow visitors, both corporate and private, to the area.
