CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Kaycee Grimes will get a chance to run down her dreams in college, literally. The Rossview High School senior today signed a national letter of intent to run Cross Country at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Grimes was attracted to Martin because of the school first and foremost, but everything that went along with that as well. “I loved the small school atmosphere that I felt in Martin. I am not a big city person at all, so I felt more comfortable.” When asked about the coach staff with the Skyhawks, she pondered what made the difference between them and other coaches, but had a definite answer once she thought about it. “Coach Gordon Sanders knows how to get the best out of his runners, and his methods are going to be the best for me to operate under.” Grimes was also offered a cross country scholarship from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
While many dream of one day playing or participating in college athletics, running cross country was not always the dream for Kaycee. “I never was a runner when I was younger; I was always a soccer player. I started running in middle school, but I was never serious about it, it was just to stay in shape for soccer. But when I got to high school, it just felt right.”
Grimes will head to Martin with some impressive numbers. Kaycee is a four time all district and all region selection, as well as a two time all Mid-State team selection. Grimes owns’ a personal best of 5:29:24 in the 1600, and 11:59 in the 3200. Her personal best in the 5K is 20.01.
