Track Star and Football Player from CHS Sign

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The amount of talent coming out of Clarksville High School this year in the class of 2012 may rival any to come out of Clarksville-Montgomery County in the past.  With the signing in the fall of five ladies basketball players, many would have thought that would have been the end.  But today, two young men made their college plans official in a ceremony at Clarksville High School.  Jerome Henderson has committed to Tennessee State University to run track, while Stan Rozar will head to Western Illinois to play football for the Leathernecks.

Jerome Henderson developed a relationship with the Tennessee State coaching staff over the past few years while running with a local track club.  “I competed over the past few years in the Ed Temple Classic, and met a lot of runners in the program,” said Henderson,” I just felt comfortable around them, and I liked the way they approached their work on the track.”  The signing of scholarship papers today has been in the vision of Henderson for quite a while.  “This is a big step forward for me.  I have always wanted to run track for a college, and this shows that if you dream, it can come true.”

Henderson was part of the 4 x 100 relay team that finished second in the state last year, and boasts a personal best time of 10.74 in the 100 meters.  He finished 6th in the state individually last year in the 100 meters with a time of 11.24.  Henderson ran a personal best 22.4 seconds in the 200 meters last year at the Rossview Invitational.

Rozar knew from the beginning of his football recruiting journey that Western Illinois might just be the place for him, because of the way they approached him.  “From the start, wide receiver coach Gunnard Twyner just treated me different than the others.  He obviously asked about football, but he seemed to care more about me, how I becoming a Leatherneck would affect my family, and it just felt more like a family atmosphere than a team atmosphere.”  Rozar has been dreaming about a day like today for a while.  “It has always been my dream to play Division I football, and today that dreams comes closer to being a reality.  And now to share this with my friends and family today, this is really special.”

Stan Rozar was a big play receiver for the Wildcats football team all season long. He finished the season with 25 catches and over 500 yards receiving, adding 5 touchdowns.  And as good as he is on the football field; Rozar is just as good in the classroom. The honor student has a 3.4 GPA and scored 27 on the ACT.  The 6’3”, 180 pound receiver will give defensive backs trouble because of his size, and his leaping ability.

Western Illinois University, located in Macomb, Illinois, is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.  The Leathernecks finished last season with a 2 and 9 overall record, competing in the same division with North Dakota State, who won the FCS Football championship this past season.
