CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) Program for low to moderate income taxpayers begins Thursday, February 2 and continues through Saturday, April 14. The V.I.T.A. program is provided by the United Way of the greater Clarksville Region and the Clarksville Regional Alliance of Financial Independence.
V.I.T.A. partners with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide free income tax preparation for low-to-moderate income taxpayers. Also, V.I.T.A. helps working families receive the full amount of their tax refunds and start to save by taking advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credit opportunities. All V.I.T.A. sites are staffed by trained, IRS certified volunteer tax assistants.
V.I.T.A. Tax Preparers will be at First Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 301 Fairview Lane in Clarksville Monday and Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Because of a scheduling conflict the V.I.T.A. Tax Preparers will not be at the site on Saturday, February 4.
There will also be a self preparation assistance site at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library each Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Times are Wednesdays 3:00 -7:00 p.m., Thursdays 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
“This is a site where you do your own taxes online with the assistance of a certified preparer in the area in case you have any navigational problems,” said Susan Jensen, V.I.T.A. Program Coordinator.
