Montgomery County's Veteran Outreach

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Career Center and Montgomery County Veterans Service held an informational session at William O. Beach Civic Hall Tuesday.

Mike Elliott, representative from the career center, welcomed veterans from all walks of life to the Tuesday seminar. Guest speakers familiarized the Montgomery county veterans in everything from legal aid to mental health issues.

Of special interest, Tom Morrison Assistant Executive Director for Veterans Education at Tennessee Higher Education Commission explained there would be a new program coming into effect for veterans this summer. VOW to Hire Heroes Act passed late in 2011 has provisions which offer older veterans who may no longer be eligible for the G.I. Bill another shot at education money. According to the Morrison, if a veteran is over the age of 35, regular access t the Montgomery G.I. Bill has expired, and unemployed, that veteran may be eligible for 12 months of G.I. Bill access.

The veteran’s seminar is held every quarter to provide the community’s veterans with an outreach in job, health, and legal services.  To find out more about services offered for employment, visit career services in Veteran’s Plaza. To learn more about education funding and opportunities available to veterans, visit www.gibill.va.gov.
