Local Children Support American Heart Month

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Children’s Ministry of Reconciliation Evangelistic Outreach Center (R.E.O.C.) will be taking part in American Heart Month by participating in Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart, national fundraising events sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

This fundraiser has become an annual event for the Children’s Ministry. “Jumping for Jesus” is this year’s theme. They are accepting donations and pledges now and are very excited about jumping.

“We are teaching our children to help others in need. We want them to know the importance of this while they are young,” says Janelle Powell, Coordinator of the event. Each child has been asked to raise a minimum of $30. “We are hoping to give a generous donation this year,” she adds.

Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart is targeted at elementary school children, but anyone can participate and anyone can sponsor an event anywhere. R.E.O.C.’s [Jump Rope for Heart] will take place on Saturday, February 4th from 10am-1pm at Minglewood Elementary. Last year’s event was like a mini health fair in which there were blood pressure checks and nutrition and exercise information for adults. The church is hoping to do the same thing this year.

“This year we are adding Hoops for Heart, which is various basketball activities. This is something new and exciting to the children,” says Deborah Webb who is the Assistant Coordinator for this event.

The money raised by jumpers is used for research and education in preventing heart disease. If you would like to make a pledge or donation, please call 931-645-9596.
