Tigers Claw Through Govs

Despite getting 21 points from John Fraley, Austin Peay men's basketball team lost 77-57 in Ohio Valley Conference action at Tennessee State, Monday night.

Fraley and Melvin Baker - 14 points -  combined to make 13 of 20 shots, while the rest of the Govs combined to make only 6 of 29 from the floor. Tennessee State, meanwhile, shot 68 percent (19 of 48) in the second half for a total 53-percent shooting performance.

"Take nothing away from Tennessee State - they're a good team," head coach Dave Loos said. "We didn't fight back tonight. We've got to have some balance. Defensively, we let them to get to the rim entirely too much tonight and it hurt us."

Outside of the Govs frontcourters, TyShwan Edmondson finished with eight points and eight rebounds and Josh Terry battled foul trouble to play only 16 minutes without scoring.

Austin Peay overall shot just 38.8 percent from the floor--its second sub-40 percent shooting in the last three games. The Govs offensive woes oculd be summed up in one statistic. APSU was credited with just three assists.

Austin Peay trailed by only nine points at the half, but struggled to get anything going to start the second. In fact, after a pair of dunks by TSU's Robert Covington, the Tigers took off on a 25-10 run to take a 26-point, 58-32, lead with 11:12 left.

Tennessee State was led by Kellen Thornton with 15 points and Robert Covington with 13 points and eight rebounds.
