CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County officials gathered Monday for a public meeting on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The program from the Department of Housing and Urban Development helps funds local community development activities.
The purpose of the meeting was to allow the public and officials to discuss possible projects for which Montgomery County can apply under the 2012 CDBG program. CDBG funds can be used for industrial development projects, water and sewer improvements, imminent threat issues and community livability projects.
The top project discussed by those attending fell under the category of community livability projects and covered the possibility of a new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Station in the area along State Highway 12. Montgomery County EMS Chief Jimmie Edwards provided statistics and talked about the need for the new station.
“These are dollars that go to different government municipalities and Montgomery County has the chance to go out and apply for up to $300,000,” said Phil Harpel Director of Administration for Montgomery County Government. County officials are considering the new EMS station on Highway 12 to help lower the response time for an ambulance in an emergency.
