CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – As many people are looking for fast career training that can lead them to new, good-paying, rewarding jobs, Austin Peay State University’s Center for Extended and Distance Education, in partnership with Boston Reed Co., is pleased to announce four allied health care training programs that will be offered this spring to prepare students to enter the health care industry – the largest employment sector in the U.S. The courses are conveniently offered with schedules planned for busy adults.
Clinical Medical Assistant Training is a 14-week program that combines classroom and online instructions with a 160-hour externship to prepare students to work in a physician’s office or clinic setting and to sit for the national certification offered through the National Center for
Competency Testing and the National Health Career Association. To introduce students to this program, a free one-hour information session will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30 in the McReynolds Building, Room 219.
Phlebotomy Technician Training is a seven-week course that provides fast-paced training designed to prepare students for a career as a phlebotomist in the growing health care workforce. Students will experience a 40-hour, hands-on externship with a local healthcare facility as part of the training. Textbooks, classroom materials and externship placement are all included in the course fee. To introduce students to the program, a free one-hour information session will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31 in the McReynolds Building, Room 219.
Pharmacy Technician Training is a 15-week program of online instruction and classroom practice that prepares students to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. This online class includes twice-weekly classroom meetings to reinforce and practice new skills. To introduce students to this program, a free one-hour information session will be held at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 6 in the McReynolds Building, Room 219.
Electronic Health Records System Technologist Training is an 18-week online class that prepares students for a career as an EHRS technologist. Need for these specialized career skills are expected to grow 20-30 percent by 2018. Taught completely online, this class includes a weekly instructor-led virtual class.
