CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Miller-Motte Technology College was joined by the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce Friday as they cut the ribbon on their new surgical technology suite. Students will be able to hone their skills by having the best equipment to learn realistic operating room procedures and practices.
Students will learn their skills on the best equipment which includes two complete beds, mannequins and new instruments. There is a state of the art laparoscopy tower that provides high quality digital images for arthroscopy and endoscopy procedures.
“The beds that we added to the lab are fully functional so it allows students the opportunity to practice positioning the patients and setting up all of the attachments which is great so when they get to the real operating room they’ve already got that under their belt,” said Kelly Johnson, Director of Surgical Technology.
The new suite at Miller-Motte is also very special because it was dedicated in honor of Sherry Gonzalez and will be known as the Sherry Gonzalez Surgical Technical Lab. Gonzalez started at Miller-Motte as a student following a divorce and a job change.
Gonzalez graduated while working and going to school as well as being a single mother. She became certified as a surgical technologist in 2008 and shortly after Miller-Motte offered her a job in the lab. Unfortunately Gonzalez was stricken with cancer and lost her life as she continued to work while undergoing treatment.
You’ll find Miller-Motte College at 1820 Business Park Drive. To learn more about how Miller-Motte Technical College is Changing Futures and Changing Lives, call (931)-553-0071 or visit www.miller-motte.edu.
