Hands on Clarksville seeks Veteran Homeowners for Free Weatherization Program

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - It’s cold outside, but Hands on Clarksville is ready for winter! The local volunteer program recently received a Community Impact grant from the Home Depot Foundation; and the funds will be used to help five local veteran families weatherize their homes.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, drafts in homes are not only annoying but can also be responsible for soaring energy costs in both winter and summer. And, reducing drafts in our homes can lower energy costs from 5 to 30 percent.

The Home Depot Community Impact Grant will provide free weatherization improvements and repairs to veteran homeowners in Clarksville Montgomery County. Applications are available through February 15, 2012 by calling 931-551-5450 or email rita@hon.org to request an application. Applicants will be accepted on first come first serve basis.

Volunteers interested in helping may attend one of two trainings to be held on February 4 from 2:00 pm.-3:00 pm. and February 9 from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm at the Home Depot Store located at 2630 Wilma Rudolph Blvd. To register call Rita Arancibia, Hands on Clarksville at 931-551-5450 or visit www.handsonclarksville.org.

"With a little help from Home Depot’s Team Depot and a community weatherization team we will be able help some of our local veterans and their families be more comfortable in their homes and reduce energy costs. Anything we can do to lessen the burden and educate homeowners about weatherization is a good thing," said Rita Arancibia, Hands on Clarksville Program Manager.

Hands On Clarksville is a program of Hands On Nashville that enables nonprofit organizations, government agencies and others to post their service needs and seek volunteers in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
