Stolen Property Found on Craigslist, Thief Goes to Jail

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - On January 17, 2012, around 4:30 pm, a 28 year old man had parked his vehicle in the parking lot of the YMCA, at 260 Hillcrest Drive, went inside to play basketball, and set his keys down by the basketball court.

When he was getting ready to leave around 6 pm, he found that his keys and 99 Jeep Cherokee were missing.

Police were notified, an investigation was opened, and a stolen vehicle notification was distributed to area law enforcement.

On January 18th, the 28 year old property owner was looking on Craigslist and saw his stolen golf clubs and other items that were inside the vehicle offered for sale. He contacted Detective Tracy Woodruff who arranged a meeting for January 19th with the man, later identified as WILLIE CHARLES COLE JR., to buy the stolen golf clubs.

The meeting was arranged for the Pageant Lane parking lot. Cole drove the stolen Jeep Cherokee to meet Police in the parking lot and had the stolen golf clubs with him.

WILLIE CHARLES COLE JR. (B/M, DOB: 10/8/92, Given Address: 1390 Ambleside Drive, Clarksville) was taken into custody and charged with THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE; Bond: $15,000.
