CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A Clarksville woman responding to an ad for a job on Craigslist has police on the case of a counterfeit check scam.
According to a police report, Joy Bender of Clarksville contacted a prospective employer by email after seeing an ad for a housecleaning job.
The employer reportedly sent Bender a check in the amount of $3220 with instructions to keep $500 and send the rest to an address in Louisiana. Investigators determined the check was a fraud and seized the check for evidence.
The employer, who goes by the name Elizabeth Wilson, mailed Bender the forged check from a New Mexico address with a UPS tracking number.
Police did not release any additional information about the suspect or details on how the investigation will proceed.
