4th Brigade Combat Team Welcomes New Commander

FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – The 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) held a change of command ceremony Thursday at the Freedom Fighter Physical Fitness Center at Fort Campbell. The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held at the Division Parade Field but was moved inside due to inclement weather.

Colonel Sean Jenkins relinquished command of the 4th Brigade Combat Team to Colonel Valery Keaveny Jr. Around 1,200 Currahee soldiers along with family members and friends as well as community leaders filled Freedom Fighter Gym for the ceremony. Colonel Jenkins took command of the 4th Brigade Combat Team in June of 2009 and recently returned with the brigade from their deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Commanding General of the 101st Major General James c. McConville spoke at the ceremony about the leadership of Colonel Jenkins during the brigade’s last deployment. “When they talk about Colonel Sean Jenkins they talk about the powerful impact of his leadership, they talk about the exacting standards that he maintained and they talk about the absolute trust his soldiers had in him as a result of his coolness under fire,” General McConville said.

When he took the podium Colonel Jenkins praised the soldiers of the 4th Brigade he commanded during their recent deployment. “To my Currahee’s the great soldiers that make up the majority of this brigade. Who day in and day out through the quick train up to the arduous conditions in Paktika and Nangarhar, they never said quit, never failed to do their utmost to protect the Afghan people and took care of each other, grew each day and always ensured they never left a fallen comrade, I find myself speechless.” said Colonel Jenkins.

Colonel Keaveny, the new commander of the 4th Brigade who has served at Fort Campbell in the past commented on his family’s return to Post. “Kimberly and I are overjoyed to return to our Army’s greatest division and the hometown feel of Fort Campbell and the awesome, tremendous community support from our civilian neighbors. It’s awesome to be a Screaming Eagle and equally as awesome to be a Currahee.” Colonel Keaveny said.
