What is your profession?
Physical Education Teacher and the Head Football Coach at Clarksville Academy.
Where are you from originally?
Oliver Springs, Tn. (East Tennessee)
How long have you been in Clarksville? What brought you to Clarksville?
I have been in Clarksville since 1986. I signed a scholarship to play football at Austin Peay. Tell us about your family.
My wife Marisa passed away in August of 2011 after a long battle with cancer. She was a fantastic mother and wife. She is truly missed everyday. We have two wonderful boys who we love dearly. Justin is 15 and Dylan is 6 years old and both go to Clarksville Academy. Justin plays football, basketball, and soccer for the high school team. Dylan loves school (lucky there) and enjoys playing soccer. Football soon!
What do you like most about Clarksville?
My church. I love attending Faith Outreach. Clarksville is a big town, however, it still has a small town feel. Clarksville has many things too do and it’s very close to Nashville.
If you could have any other profession/dream job what would it be?
Race-car driver without a doubt.
What is your favorite meal?
No favorites-I love all food (ask my friends).
What is the easiest and most difficult part of your job every day?
The easiest part is working with the administration, faculty, and students at Clarksville Academy. The most difficult part is the long hours I spend with the football program. I have a passion for teaching kids. If it’s in the classroom, gym, or football that’s what I love and I’m blessed being able to teach and coach my boys.
What do you drive? My daily driver is a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville. I have an old 1972 C-10 Chevy truck and a 1976 Corvette that I have had for 25 years.
What’s your favorite movie or TV show? Movie is Jeremiah Johnson and Cool hand Luke-two old classics. I love watching CSI Miami.
Who do you look up too? Who is your role model? Without a doubt, it’s my father. I have always looked up to him. When I was about 8 years old I always wanted him to coach me in football, but he coached the older team. When I turned 12 and was put on his team. That was the best year of my young life. My dad was a great coach, however, he was very tough and I always admired him for that.
What has been the toughest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your life? Losing my wife to cancer this past year is the hardest thing I have ever been through. I may never fully recover, but God gives me strength daily. I love my kids and we will get though this tough time.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? How would you like your life to look 10 years from now?
I plan on being at Clarksville Academy teaching and coaching football. I teach Kindergarten through 12th grade. So those younger kids will on the cougar field before they know it. That is exciting.
Have you ever been issued a speeding ticket?
Let’s see-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7? Just kidding. I will stop at 3.
Why did you choose your current profession? I love kids. Teaching and coaching is so rewarding. I have been around sports my whole life and teaching was a natural fit.
Where did you go to school and what did you study? Austin Peay. My major was Health and Physical Education.
When and to where was your last vacation?
Vacation? What is that? Just kidding. We try to go to Gatlinburg once a year. We missed that trip this past year.
What is your favorite pastime or hobby?
I enjoy working on my 1976 Corvette and working around the house.
What advice can you give others juggling a family and career? I have great support here with my wife’s family. I couldn’t coach the way I do if they it wasn’t for my family. Advice - do the best with what you have and love on your family.
How do you start your day? Up at 6 a.m. and getting a wrestling DVD ready for Dylan to watch. He loves to watch wrestling. Shower and ready for school.
What are you passionate about in life?
God, family, and football.
What is something most Clarksvillians wouldn’t know about you? I don’t sleep much.
If you could leave one message to the Clarksville community what would it be? Find a great church. My church, family, and school, have been my strength.
