With the cost of achieving this dream growing out of reach for many, one avenue to choose that can save thousands of dollars is a manufactured or modular home. Providing quality modular homes in Clarksville is Clayton Homes, at 451 Alfred Thun Road behind Sam’s Club in Clarksville.I recently spent some time with a few of the employees at Clayton Homes to find out more about the homes and services offered to their customers. First I spoke with Tammi Melton, a Housing Consultant with Clayton Homes who filled me in on the company and their line up of homes.
“Clayton Homes is the largest manufacturing facility in the world. We offer different lines, just like in automobiles there’s different lines in automobiles under the same parent company and the same thing is going on with Clayton. Depending on the customers needs we have single wide homes, double wide home and even triple wide homes,” Melton said.
According to Melton, Clayton Homes are available anywhere from 900 square foot three bedroom two bathroom, all the way up to a 3,000 square foot triple wide with a raised roof and brick exterior. Their home prices start in the low to mid $20,000 range and go up to approximately $150,000 depending on which options for the home are chosen.
Melton also talked with me about how she works with customers to find a home that meets their needs along with their budget. Clayton Homes even provides assistance finding a property for the home of their choice. Melton said she was proud to say they could find a home for anybody. When it comes time to buy and build a home Melton compared some of the advantages of a Clayton home over a site-built home. Topping the list is price with many times a manufactured home giving the customer more for their money. Time is also another factor with a manufactured home taking less time to build that a site-built home.
Clayton Homes holds their annual community yard sale at their location and a lot of people have had the opportunity to stop by and take part in the yard sale and also take a closer look at some of the homes. Melton talked about how many people are surprised that these are not the old trailers that they thought they were, they are homes built with high quality materials and workmanship.
Next I spoke with Bill Westbrook, General Manager of Clayton Homes about financing a new home, “We also have our own bank, we have our own insurance company, it’s basically a turn key facility, obviously with the Safe Act the communications go through the banker rather than us but we have access to being able to do everything and there is a convenience factor to Clayton Homes that is just phenomenal, its surpassed by anyone in this industry,” said Westbrook.
There was another aspect to financing a Clayton Home that Melton shared with me.“If the customer has land or family land there is a possibility that they could get right into the home with nothing down. So that again if you’re out looking at a site built home you’re going to have to have a down payment unless you’re going through VA or some other government loan program,” Melton said.
With a large number of military and military retirees in the area I found out that many members of the military don’t know that VA will help them finance their new manufactured or modular home.
“A lot of military don’t know that VA will actually work with manufactured and modular homes. We have various lenders that we can work with and we’ll help them through the process. We can also help them find land,” said Trevor Dean, Home Relocation Specialist and Licensed Realtor with Clayton Homes.
“We want the customers to know that right now there is a dream home giveaway promotion going on through the end of October. They are welcome to come in and register for that dream home. If they go ahead and purchase that home right now there is an $8,000 promotion to help them out with the expenses of setting the home on property and possibly taking care of some of the extras they want to order with their home,” said Melton.
