Jeff and Kathy Sayle were celebrating their 9 year old child’s birthday when a severe thunderstorm hit the area.
According to a neighbor, the kids were hunkered down during the storm when they heard a loud boom. They didn’t realize their home had been hit until Kathy Sayle went up to check in the attic which was consumed by smoke.
Sayle got the kids out and the van out of the garage when the house became engulfed in flames.
Theirs was not the only house lost to the electrical storm. According to Capt. Danny Perry of the Clarksville Fire Dept., another house in the exit one area was a total loss after being struck by lightning.
In that case, the home was under construction and the family was ready to move in when it was struck during the same storm and was a total loss. The family had already sold their other house in preparation of moving to the new house so they have to look for a place to live until their new house is rebuilt.
