CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – At Tuesday night’s Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s Power Board study session, the Tennessee School Board Association presented board members with a timeline and break down of the search the organization will conduct for a new CMCSS Director.
Dr. Tammy Grissom, Executive Director of TSBA began by telling the CMCSS Board that her organization works for them.
“We work for you all,” explained. “We simply do the leg work for you.”
Grissom presented the board with an outline to agree on or alter for the Director search. The most important portion of the timeline, agreed on by the CMCSS board, was he January 17 meetings for public input. The meetings, set for the CMCSS boardroom at the central offices, are broken down for different groups of the community to become involved in the search criteria.
Grissom told the board the input meetings, “Gives everyone in the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community opportunity to have input.”
The schedule for January 17th begins with input from Senior Leadership team at 8:30 a.m., then at 9:30 Principals/Assistant Principals, supervisors, and central office staff will meet. At 10:30 a.m. classified staff will meet and be followed by parent communications at 11:30. A second opportunity for Principals and Assistant Principals will be held at 1:30 p.m. and followed by input from student advisory group at 3:15. Teacher communication will provide input at 4:30 p.m. and followed by the community input forum at 6 p.m.
Grissom explained that if there was any member of the community of the CMCSS that for whatever reason could not make the public input meetings, they will still be capable of contacting the TSBA offices by phone, fax, and email or submit input via a web form. The Executive Director told the school board the primary concern in finding the right candidate was to make sure everyone was heard.
TSBA will then compile all suggestions and comments and present an interim list to the school board on February 7. The school board will decide on which criteria to adopt, include, or reject at that time.
Through this process, Grissom explained, “There are some unique things that will come out.”
Following the school board’s adoption of the specific criteria for the new director, TSBA will create a brochure to be distributed as well as advertise for the position. Through the adopted criteria candidates will be weeded out of the search process until a final list of approximately five candidates can be presented to the CMCSS board for interviews.
The TSBA Director did strongly urge that every school board member attend each of the interviews for the final candidates. Originally the TSBA suggested March 27 as the deadline to submit final candidates for the Director’s position, however due to conflicts the final date of April 3 for submission of the list of candidates was chosen.
The school board decided on the week of April 16 through 20 to meet with each candidate and interview. To find out more about the search process visit TSBA on the web at http://tsba.net.
