Jecarvin Brown, 20 and Jason Lee Rose, 21, both of Clarksville, were killed after what witnesses claimed was an altercation at the party. “Apparently the suspect and Brown were fighting when the suspect shot brown,” said Investigator Billy Batson of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Batson added that Rose had run over to help Brown when he was also shot.
Batson said the party began Friday evening and was supposed to be a get together for about 100 people. The party was posted on facebook which drew more people than originally expected. It is estimated that between 200 and 500 people attended the party and someone was stationed down the road from the party checking IDs.
Authorities had visited the area Friday evening because of loud noise, and officers investigated to make sure there were no illegal activities such as underage drinking going on at the party. No evidence of anything illegal was found by officers.
It was around 1:49 a.m. that a witness saw the suspect shoot Brown and Rose, then get into a vehicle with several other men and flee the scene. “After that, it was utter chaos,” Batson said, adding that people scattered and attempted to leave with hundreds stuck on High Point Road.
Because of the work of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Clarksville Police Department, authorities were able to secure the area, interview hundreds of witnesses and get the information they needed.
One of the witnesses described the vehicle in which the suspect escaped to authorities and a Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper and Sheriff’s Deputy stopped the car and found two guns inside. One gun was the same make and type as the shell casings found at the scene.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy John Smith praised the team and the other agencies for their efforts in bringing those responsible for the shooting to justice. “I’m proud of all the responding agencies that worked together to make this happen. It’s that type of cooperation the public expects and it allowed us to quickly find and charge those accountable,” Smith said.
Batson said the Montgomery County rescue Squad also assisted, patrolling the banks of the Cumberland River near the area to make sure no one escaped by water.
