Know Your Neighbor

Stephen Allen Kemmer

What is your full name?

Stephen Allen Kemmer

What is your profession?

Banking

Where are you from originally?

Born in Lafayette, Indiana, but grew up in Tallahassee, Florida

How long have you been in Clarksville?

Since January 1996

What brought you to Clarksville?

I transferred with my company.

Tell us about your family.

I have been married to my wife Lisa for 26 years (on July 27 of this year) We have a daughter Kelsey, 21 years old, that is about to graduate from APSU, majoring in elementary education. My son Kacy, 19 years old, is going to be a sophomore at APSU on a baseball scholarship.

What do you like most about Clarksville?

We fell in love with the community as a whole – the people, the change of seasons and just the natural beauty around us that God has provided this area.

If you could have any other profession/dream job what would it be?

Little boy’s dream – professional baseball player.

What is your favorite meal?

Probably Pizza – although that is not the healthiest for me.

What is the easiest and most difficult part of your job every day?

Financial services industry has been through some tough years, and our national economy has been stressed. However, I am blessed to work with strong stable company and great people, and we have the privilege of being dream makers as we help our community get closer to their dreams – buying a home, saving to send kids to college, expanding a business, etc.

What do you drive?

Honda Accord

What’s your favorite movie or TV show?

I like sports – so watching Florida State football is probably what I like … if they win  However, I like other movies and shows as well. One of the best shows of all time – ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW – still a classic!

Who do you look up too?

I am blessed with wonderful family, and sometimes my wife and kids amaze me at times with things that they do that others may know nothing about. I am proud of my wife, daughter and son!

Who is your role model?

Not real sure on this one, but I am grateful that as I grew up as kid, I had loving parents and family support.

What has been the toughest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your life?

All of us go through difficult personal issues that can challenge us in our lifetime. However, that is why it is great to have faith in God, and a strong wife, kids and other family that can help us through the tough times. Overall, I am very blessed and very thankful. I do recall when I first moved up here, prior to my family coming up to join me… snow on the ground, didn’t know anyone in the community and looking out the window I wondered “What have I done – moving up here from Florida?” However, we quickly came to be part of the community and it is home!

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? How would you like your life to look 10 years from now?

Who knows what 10 years will bring, but I hope to be continuing to do something I love in the community that I love – Clarksville, with my family still near and everyone healthy and safe.

Have you ever been issued a speeding ticket?

Yes, one time in Alabama returning from a Florida State Seminole football game. My son will not let me forget.

Why did you choose your current profession?

During my senior year of college, this was an opportunity that came up and seemed to match some of my strengths. However, it was not something that little boy’s dream of growing up. Kind of became a banker by accident.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Marketing Management.

When and to where was your last vacation?

I went to Florida with my son and did a little golfing.

What is your favorite pastime or hobby?

Racquetball, basketball, golf and just hanging with my family at different things.

What advice can you give others juggling a family and career?

God and family should come first, and then career. As I tell my family, “Whatever you do, do your absolute best” and “as unto God and not to man” as the Bible says.

How do you start your day?

I try to start each day with a brief quiet time of devotions – read Bible, some devotional books to get my head on straight for the day.

What are you passionate about in life?

Family.

What is something most Clarksvillians wouldn’t know about you?

I still try to play basketball with the young guys on Saturday and love racquetball also. My body is telling me I am getting too old, but I love the competition.

If you could leave one message to the Clarksville community what would it be?

Remember to stop and look around and count our blessings. Our community is so blessed and our strength is each other. Let’s continue to work together for the good of our community!
