According to Tyler Barrett, President of the Clarksville Police Union, Local 18, “We’ve raised some funds over the last few months from businesses and citizens who have donated to this program. What we like to do is have police officers reach out to the children of the community and put them in a positive light to these kids.”
Each child received $100 to spend toward their Christmas wish list. Officers were on hand to help check out some of the toys. Children were chosen by Elementary school guidance counselors and Head Start teachers who nominated them to be recipients. Others were chosen by Police Officers who know of children in need. A total of 210 children participated in this year's Shop With a Cop program.
Barrett added, “It’s a true blessing and these Police Officers look forward to this every year.”
