Programs at the YMCA

The Clarksville Tennessee YMCA is one of 31 centers in the Middle Tennessee YMCA association. The YMCA is, as it always has been, a not-for-profit organization committed to inspiring youth, improving health, serving others, and creating community. The Clarksville Y is a top notch fitness facility, employing certified personal trainers and life guards, providing access to cutting edge cardio and strength training equipment, and offering stimulating dance aerobics, Pilates, and Yoga classes, but YMCA staff members understand they work for more than just a fitness facility. “Working at the YMCA has enabled me to see how the Y impacts the community,” Said Becca Wallace, YMCA Membership Connector, “People gather here not just to work out, but to socialize, or to bring their kids to one of our many youth programs.”

The Clarksville YMCA provides members with many trustworthy childcare services including Y-Play, Hang Time and the YMCA Teen Center. “Just by having a smile on my face and open arms when the kids come into the Y-Play room, I help them start their experience off right,” said Amy Loescher, YMCA Childcare. Y-Play offers children, ages 6 weeks to 6 years, the chance to get the most out of their own visit to the Y through playing, learning and staying physically active. Hang Time and the YMCA Teen Center provide supervised environments for kids, ages 7 to 12 years, to interact with one another while engaging in structured and unstructured activities such as foosball, Ping-Pong, movie nights, teen nights, time at the pool and more.

The Clarksville YMCA’s indoor therapy and lap swimming pools are the perfect places for aquatic exercise, relaxation, and instruction. The Y’s swim lessons are designed to give every participant the chance to learn and succeed. Participants are grouped together based on their ages and ability levels, and the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are incorporated into every lesson. The look a child gets when they swim even the smallest distance is like nothing else,” said Kyle Shannon, YMCA Head Lifeguard, “but the look in mom and dad’s eyes is one of joy and excitement. That is why I started teaching, and the reason why I still teach.” The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a proud partner of Ellis & Associates Water Safety Program, and the Clarksville Y’s lifeguards have been trained by Ellis to prevent aquatic emergencies and conduct emergency rescue care whenever necessary.

Water aerobics, water therapy, senior strength training, potlucks, day trips, and more are organized by the YMCA’s Active Older Adults program, which is designed to tailor the YMCA experiences of older members to fit their needs. As we age, it is increasingly important to stay active and exercise regularly. At the Y, older adults can take advantage of exercise programs designed especially for them.

Affordable counseling is also available at the Clarksville YMCA to both members and non members. Restore Ministries offers professional, holistic, counseling to individuals and couples on a sliding rate scale, so that no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.

Through youth and aquatics programs, Active Older Adults, Restore Ministries and community involvement, the YMCA offers much more than a fitness facility to its members, but the Y strives to provide its facility and members with a wide variety of wellness equipment. The Y’s commitment to inspiring physical fitness doesn’t stop there. To increase the chances that an exercise program will succeed the Y offers 3N1 fitness, The YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s personalized wellness program. Free to all members, 3N1 fitness is an opportunity to receive advice from the Y’s staff of Wellness Coaches and begin a fitness plan customized to help you meet your goals.
