The students were given the opportunity to experience the responsibilities of a 25-year-old and providing sole or primary support of their household.
Students visited 13 “Stations” where they had to make decisions appropriate for their household while staying within a monthly budget based on the family and education status provided. They were given careers, income levels and family situations.
One student was overwhelmed at the cost of daycare for the 3 children she was told she had and with the low income she was given couldn’t afford any extras like going to the movies or buying new CD’s.
The Reality Check Program was underwritten by a grant from Bank of America.
