Montgomery Central High School Sends Graduates Out Into The World

CLARLSVILLE, Tenn. – A Commencement ceremony Saturday afternoon saw 207 students receive their diplomas as graduates of Montgomery Central High School. The sounds of Pomp and Circumstance brought members of the high school faculty marching into the Dunn Center at Austin Peay who were followed by the students.

In her remarks to the class and guests, Principal, Mrs. Christy Houston mentioned the renovation work which is going on at the school and the removal of the gymnasium floor which has been in place 42 years and how the class of 2011 would be the last to stand on it. Mrs. Houston told each student they were going to receive a small piece of the gym floor because it represents part of their history.

“I challenge you to find what you were created to do and do it with a sense of purpose and pride, Central pride,” Mrs. Houston said. After the Principal presented the students to the Director of Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools Mike Harris, a loud cheer went up from both students and guests throughout the Dunn Center as Harris announced the students as graduates of Montgomery Central High School.

The students then each walked across the stage as their name was called which was followed by the traditional tassels being moved to the other side of their caps, the singing of the school Alma Mater and after that their caps were tossed into the air. The music of Pomp and Circumstance once again filled the Dunn Center as the students marched outside to spend time with their family and friends.

One student, Brittani Urbanovsky, shared her feelings about graduating by saying, “It’s astonishing, it’s amazing, I didn’t think I could do it, my sister’s here, my dad and my mom helped me get through all of this, my family’s amazing.”
