Know Your Neighbor

Jennifer Kready

What is your full name?

Jennifer Kready

What is your profession?

Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TN and Restore.

Where are you from originally?

Phoenix, AZ

How long have you been in Clarksville?

Since January 2010.

What brought you to Clarksville?

Big Green Army brought us here from Germany.

Tell us about your family.

I’m an Air Force veteran and my husband, Eric, is 22 year Army Soldier. We’ve been married since 2005. We look forward to adopting 2 miniature daschunds this year, Liesl and Gretl. We have a niece, Hannah, who we adore!

What do you like most about Clarksville?

Lots of outdoor recreation at the LBL and curvy roads to drive on.

If you could have any other profession/dream job what would it be?

Professional chocolate taste-tester who determines the best pairing with gourmet coffees.

What is your favorite meal?

‘Jen’chiladas brought directly from Arizona.

What is the easiest and most difficult part of your job every day?

Easiest is working with the applicants and the ReStore staff.
The most difficult is not being able to move quickly on a project since I’m the only Affiliate staff (right now).

What do you drive?

‘M’ a 2007 Mazda6 V6 named after ‘M’ in James Bond.

What’s your favorite movie or TV show?

I have a crush on “Leroy Jethro Gibbs” NCIS so I watch that after work and before fitness every day.

Who do you look up too? Who is your role model?

My boss from North Carolina who had great innovation, clarity and capacity in the non-profit world. I look to my husband for pragmatic approaches to solving problems. I have a great peer support system in the Habitat world, too.

What has been the toughest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your life?

Enduring a 17-month separation from my husband due to his assignment and deployment from GA.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? How would you like your life to look 10 years from now?

We have our dogs, a big truck, rolling around the landscapes of America and seeing new places all the time, going on cruises twice a year and visiting the Caribbean at least annually.

Have you ever been issued a speeding ticket?

In 1993 by a guy I went to high school with who pulled me over AT the high school we graduated from the year earlier so those younger than us watched on. So embarrassing! I’ve never received a ticket since then and shouldn’t since my husband is a military police officer.

Why did you choose your current profession?

I’ve worked in non-profit and in the military for 15 years since graduating college. I’ve always felt at home in the public service world and to think of a for-profit job doesn’t appeal to me.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I went to Arizona State University and received my liberal arts degree. I went to Duke University for a non-profit management certificate and earned a Masters of Public Administration (with my GI Bill) from California State University.

When and to where was your last vacation?

Our last vacation was a cruise to Cozumel, Belize and Florida Keys in March

What is your favorite pastime or hobby?

I like to cook, garden, fitness and make little piles of work around the house to drive my husband crazy.

What advice can you give others juggling a family and career?

Leave work at work – don’t read emails, phone or compute on work stuff at home. Life is too short to live to work.

How do you start your day?

5:30 a.m. NPR wake up, 6 a.m. PT and coffee by 7 a.m.!

What are you passionate about in life?

No speeding in my neighborhood – you know who you are! Abiding by the laws and rules and affordable healthy lifestyles.

What is something most Clarksvillians wouldn’t know about you?

I have traveled to 27 countries in 28 months.

If you could leave one message to the Clarksville community what would it be?

Make volunteering a part of your lifestyle – just like healthy life habits. When it’s part of your family tradition, it won’t fall by the wayside when life gets a little hectic.
