There is no bigger amount of pressure in the game of baseball than being the last batter, with the last out on your shoulders, and the opportunity to keep your team’s season alive with one swing of the bat. That is exactly the situation that Northwest’s Dominik Shannon experienced last week against Clarksville High, and Shannon came through in the clutch, allowing his team to pick up the win, and a school record 21st win of the season. For his clutch performance, Shannon has been named this week’s Charter Business Athlete of the Week.
Shannon, who started at first base for the Vikings in the District 10-AAA elimination game, hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, driving in the Vikings first run of the game. But maybe the most important at-bat of his high school career came in the bottom of the seventh. With the game tied at 3 apiece, and the bases loaded, Shannon stepped in and delivered for his team, driving a single up the middle, allowing the winning run to score in a 4 – 3 win over CHS. That win allows Northwest to advance to regional play for the first time in the memorable history of the program.
Congratulations to Northwest High School’s Dominik Shannon, this week’s Charter Business Athlete of the Week.
