Know Your Neighbor

Casey Jenkins

What is your full name?
Casey Jenkins Combs

What is your profession?

Internet Manager at Jenkins & Wynne

Where are you from originally?
Born and raised here!

Tell us about your family.

I have a beautiful 2 year old daughter. I am a 3rd generation Jenkins.

What do you like most about Clarksville?

The growth! Small enough to know people, yet large enough to have a prosperous business and serve our community. I also love living in the midst of our Nation’s heroes. It is a humble reminder of how fortunate we are to be living in America.

If you could have any other profession/dream job what would it be?
I am truly in my dream job: full time mom and full time employee of Jenkins & Wynne selling the best vehicles: Ford, Lincoln, Honda.

What is your favorite meal?
Right now? Parmesan Crusted Chicken at Longhorn

What is the best part of your job every day?
Serving our team members, giving back to them and helping them be successful and feel confident in their job and in life. Knowing their kids, how I can specifically pray and encourage them, just living life day to day. A blessing.

What do you drive?

2012 Ford Explorer

Who do you look up too? Who is your role model?

I look up to God. My faith has been instrumental in my growth as a person. It has forever changed my life. My role model is my Dad. If I can be ½ the person he is, personally and professionally, I will have succeeded in life. I have learned life and business smarts from him. I have learned the importance of keeping priorities in line: God, Family, Work. The life take-aways I have tucked inside my heart will forever mold me…and I am passing down the same legacy to my daughter.

What has been the toughest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your life?
Everyday can be challenging if I take my eye off the prize. Every day I make the decision to live in joy, make the wise choice, and know that obstacles are just opportunities to grow.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? How would you like your life to look 10 years from now?
Family: Be the #1 mom to my family and to be intentional with time. Work: #1 in business. I have an intense passion for our family business and to keep the tradition of ‘family owned and operated’ for another 60 years!

Why did you choose your current profession?
My degree is in Education. However, my senior year I decided against that. Dad said ‘Promise me one year in the car business. If you love it, stay, But if not, we will find something else for you.’ The rest is history! I have the best opportunity to work with my family. Not only my blood relatives, but my incredible team members…handfuls of which have been here since I was born. We have the finest team at Jenkins & Wynne than ever before.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?
Murray State University. Bachelor of Science in Physical and Health Education

What is your favorite pastime or hobby?
I love to compete in races: marathons, 5ks, Triathlons. I love to run, play hard, be active, take risks, be adventurous, set goals, accomplish big things.....therefore, Tri's fit me. Over the years, I have realized how much the 'activity of a Tri' embodies who I am....all my characteristics (good and bad) are displayed in a Tri. I love that no 2 are the same....and never will be. Something is always different (weather, course, people, your body, etc). I don't mind change and I always love a good challenge. I love the ruggedness of Tris. It is just you....relying on your own body and mind to move. I like Tri's because you have to be self-disciplined and self-motivated. You have to be organized in your approach. The Tri community seems to be an encouraging one. I like the changing of 3 different sports..afterall, it's a full body sport. To complete a Tri you have to know how to hunker down and dig deep within your thoughts. You have to get in the zone and just roll with the punches and go for it. It is not a sport for the weak minded...especially the longer ones....at some point- it becomes a mental activity just as much as a full-body activity. It's a lifetime sport. I'm very encouraged w/ the people that participate: super athletic to super couch potatoe. Old to young. Fast to slow. There is not a one size that fits all for Tri's. If you have not been a part of one...or atleast watched one..add it to your bucket list. It will amaze you!

What advice can you give others juggling a family and career?
As Ace of Base (yes, one of my 1st CDs…them and Taylor Dane…Santa brought them both to me when he brought my 1st CD player! Love that Santa!) said, ‘Life is demanding…without understanding.’ Juggling life becomes more complex every year….but, for the most part, I love it.

I’ve realized that having my own identity is important to me. I find freedom in my work. And my work just isn’t a job. It’s a career. I’m able to have my own identity partly through work. I feel that I am a better mom because I work. Reason being? My time with my daughter is 100% intentional, never wasted, and full of purposeful energy. I like to work because I like being a face of Jenkins & Wynne. I love what I represent: family working together + great people working together to serve other people (sales + service). I want to be a good role model so my daughter can see that women can be successful, smart, and independent MOMS.

My balance in life is intentional, too. Because I work…and just don’t have all the free time in the world to do whatever- when I do have free time…it is with purpose. I feel that I accomplish way more in life when I am balanced. Balanced with God, Family, Work, Exercise, Social, Me time…etc.

The stigma is still pretty strong on ‘working moms’ not being as intentional/caring/good as ‘stay-at-home-moms’ are. But, I disagree as the time I do have with my daughter….it is treasured time. The time I have with her has no room for laziness or just sitting… it is time filled with love and attention.

Anyway, when life is all said and done, I want her to know that Moms can work and still function and love just as much as moms that don’t work….and that guilt is only a product of society’s ‘norm’…(whatever ‘normal’ is) and that we don't have to be trapped by guilt!

How do you start your day?
Reading the Bible and Praying. Taking care of my daughter, dog and cat.

What are you passionate about in life?

Being transparent and serving others. Also. running a successful business…and serving our incredible employees. And anything outdoors and active…sports included.

What is something most Clarksvillians wouldn’t know about you?
A buddy and I coordinate ‘Run For A Reason’ every year. It is a 5k running race and a 1 mile fun run. 100% of the proceeds go to the charity. Each year we pick out a different ‘reason’ to raise money for and build awareness around. This year, we grew 54% and were able to donate a record number of money to Manna Café- a ministry to feed the hungry in Clarksville.
