Mildred & Mable’s on Franklin Street in downtown Clarksville, is a good idea to put on your to do list for your next shopping trip.
The boutique is new to the downtown area having opened their doors July 7 at 109 Franklin Street. The main floor of Mildred & Mable’s offers gift items, jewelry, perfume, clothing and shoes just to name a few of the many things you’ll find.
“I think that we are just unique in that we have a good variety of gifts. We do gift baskets, we do any kind of monogramming on clothing or bags and we can even monogram on solid objects,” Andrea said.
Mildred & Mable’s Manager, Emily Henson explained, “We can also ship items as well. People come in and love our store but they are just visiting Clarksville and we’ve been asked on more than one occasion, hey I love those sandals, can you ship those to me? So they call and we take care of all of that over the phone.”
Herrera talked about the many special events that are held at Mildred & Mable’s, “We have an area with a bar to serve and a couch and chairs and we have parties and we stay open late so people can shop.”
The owner explained the origins of the name, Mildred & Mable’s which came from Herrera’s two great grandmothers.Talking about the success of the business, “We’ve had a huge reception and we’ve been very busy. We’re learning as we go and we’re trying to listen to our customers and evolve and change with what they want and need,” said Herrera.
One of the other feature businesses at Mildred & Mable’s is Horsefeathers, a paint your own pottery and woodcraft studio.
“We have a full line of pottery, we also have a full line of handcrafted woodcrafts as well and we offer full instruction,” said Laura Mercier owner of Horsefeathers.
Mercier continued with, “We do birthday parties, we do office parties, FRG groups. Any group that you have that you want to come in and schedule a personal painting time. We also have open seating painting so you can come in any time you want and paint whatever you like.”
Customers can also schedule their own private time after hours at pottery section.
Mercier also spoke about how there are no extra fees on the pottery and woodcrafts a patron will find at Horsefeathers. According to Mercier, there is never a studio fee and the price you see on each item is the final price that you pay. The artist fee, the glazing fee and the firing fees are all complimentary.
Another part of the store which is The Loft at Mildred & Mable’s which is a full service salon that also offers waxing. “It is by appointment only. You can shop while you’re processing you hair color, it’s really a one-stop shopping experience in this whole store,” said Kimberlee Cavin, salon manager.
The fourth section of the store is a women’s clothier called Couture Crush. Work is underway on the store and Couture Crush is scheduled to open upstairs at Mildred & Mable’s around October 1st.
