That’s right, child slavery and trafficking in Tennessee. According to data from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, investigators found that 85 of the counties in Tennessee reported at least one case of human sex trafficking in the last 24 months. From May of 2009 to 2011, Montgomery County reported 16 to 24 cases of child trafficking.

The U.S. Department of Justice reports that every two minutes a child is trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation in the United States. This is not a problem only found in distant third world countries, its right in our back yard, and Summer Jackson owner of Fleur de Lis is taking a stand to help put an end to it.

The boutique is providing a portion of every sale of personalized jewelry created in the store to Stop Child Trafficking Now an organization devoted to ending child slavery in the U.S. According to Jackson “Breaking the Chains” fundraising effort by Fleur De Lis is symbolic of breaking he chains of slavery.

“This was one issue close to my heart,” said Jackson as she spoke about her involvement.

Jackson explained a customer comes into the store and goes to the build their own jewelry section. There they can choose to create a necklace or bracelet, starting at $8.50. Each shopper can pick a chain that expresses their individual style and then individualize it wih charms and pendants. Fleur de Lis provides dozens of charms from keys, to monogram pieces to provide a unique personalization to each piece.

Jackson explained that the donation to SCTNow was only one way Fleur De Lis intends to help child trafficking get the attention it deserves. Fleur de Lis, along with several other local businesses are planning to have a fashion show at the Riverview Inn in March. Jackson says the show provides a perfect forum for women to help women.

As for the cooperation between the shop and SCTNow, Breaking the Chains will continue to help support SCTNow according to Jackson, “Until child trafficking is eliminated.”

Fleur de Lis is a fashion boutique best described by its Facebook page, “Tradition with a Twist.” The Clarksville original is located at 100 Main Street, directly across from the City Hall’s main parking lot and open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Summer Jackson regularly travels to New York, Atlanta, and Dallas to check out the latest trends and brings home to Clarksville affordable fashion for everyday life.
