CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With the first day of Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools coming up in less than a month parents have begun their annual collection of school supplies. Students will go for a half-day on Wednesday, August 8 and start with a full-day on Friday, August 10.
As it is each year many families struggle to provide their children with the supplies they need to be successful in school. Backpack Buddies, a program designed to help less fortunate children with the supplies they need for school opened The Well to distribute back packs filled with the needed school supplies.
Marla Brown, Manager of Lyndon’s Salon & Spa one of the organizers of the program talked with Clarksvillenow.com about the event. “This is our third year and it’s growing, doubling every year. The first year we had 250 backpacks and this year we are expecting 700-750,” Brown said.
The backpacks were distributed on Thursday, August 2 to the youngsters at The Well which is a ministry that provides help to those in need and offers free clothing, household items, groceries and free meals. Lyndon’s Salon & Spa had members of their staff at The Well providing free haircuts, nail polishing and face painting.
