BBB Warns of Phone Scam

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee Better Business Bureau has issued an alert about ID scammers that are contacting residents claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry.

Details of the scam were released this week. The BBB says telemarketers have been claiming to provide an opportunity to sign up for the registry. The organization says these calls are not from the Registry or the Federal Trade Commission and advise that if contacted to not respond.

"Do not provide any personal information to callers, no bank information, Social Security Number or contact information." The alerts states if your number is already registered with the Do Not Call Registry, your registration does not expire.

You can verify if and when your number was registered by going to DoNotCall.gov. CLICK on ‘Register a Phone Number” To add your number to the Registry you can call 888-382-1222 from the phone you wish to register.
