PAKTYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan (Dec. 10, 2012) – Soldiers from Company D, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), teamed up with 1st Kandak, 1st Coy, Afghan National Army, Zormat Afghan Uniformed Police and Afghan National Civil Order Police, on a two-day mission to disrupt and clear insurgent activity in the Zormat District, Afghanistan, Dec. 9, 2012.
During the ANSF-led mission, several suspected insurgents were detained for questioning and more than 80 lbs of home-made explosive material was destroyed. The operation was aimed at destabilizing an alleged safe-haven for anti government activity within the district.
ANSF conducted all clearing and questioning operations while the Rakkasans of Company D, 1-187, assisted in facilitating aerial support while supplying additional ground forces.
