A Special Father's Day for 81 Soldiers

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Just in time for Father’s Day, 81 Soldiers from the 227th Quartermaster Company, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, returned home from their deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In his message to the troops, Col. Michael Peterman said, “You can’t have this day without talking about Father’s Day so if you’re a father, Happy Father’s Day, if you’re not, grab a cell phone and call your Dad.”

Peterman also thanked the families assembled for “loaning your loved ones to us this year.  Our Nation needed them and when our Nation needed these great soldiers they showed up and they got the work done.   But it does not go unnoticed by Army leaders and America how much sacrifice our families make in these last 9 years and we thank you very much.  Air Assault.”

Waiting for the troops were balloons and signs reading Happy Father’s Day and Dad, you’re our hero.  One group of family and friends had a picture of their returning soldier embossed on their t-shirts.

Because of the late hour of the return, some children fell asleep and awoke to having their parent, who they hadn’t seen in almost a year, waking them up.  One little boy was so excited to see his dad because he had a boo boo and wanted his to dad kiss it and make it better.
