The evening’s sessions touched on an easement, the 2011-12 inclement weather plan, the ever daunting insurance plan, and the unveiling of the new CMCSS web site. Sitting as temporary chairman in place of Jimmie Garland was board member Carol Smithson.
The brand new school system’s website was presented by assistant communications director Andrew Pitt. Pitt said it was important to the system to keep evolving not only to meet the needs of the community, but to also anticipate them. The new design offers a more user friendly layout and keeps pace with the standards of the web as a whole explained Pitt.
What caught the attention of both board members Horace Murphy and George Giles was the “weather” page. The board members’ questions provided a perfect Segway to the discussion on the proposed inclement weather plan.
The major change in the calendar is the removal of December make-up days. School board director Mike Harris explained adding days during a month that holds so many family related or planned holidays did not make sense. Harris went on to say that the proposed calendar reflects last year’s calendar very closely.
“This is the plan that worked the best and helped us meet our goals,” said Harris.
The first three days missed will not be made up and will come from stockpiled days; the fourth day will be made up. The days set aside for make-up days are January 3, 4, and 16, February 20, and April 6. After these days are used if there is still a need to make up time the early release days on February 3 and March 2 will shift to full days plus 30 minutes.
